CHIs should be more focused on their duty of providing access, while maintaining also the duty of care. This can be achieved through introduction of more responsible and ethical curatorial strategies and democratisation of processes in CHIs. Currently we can observe a gap in having ethical policies as an integral part of CHIs organisational policies. The situation is calling for a broad discussion on an international level. CHIs have the mission for reliable, transparent information provision and thus can provide spaces for political dialogue to engage and empower citizens. This should also apply to embracing tech by CHIs (eg. heritage for ethical AI) as well as climate responsibility.
